At Monday evening’s Middletown Township Board of Supervisors meeting, Chairperson Anna Payne swore in Mike Leonard as the department’s newest officer.
“We look forward to having him protecting and serving the residents of Middletown Township,” Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla said.
Leonard was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia and moved to Middletown Township in 2012. He is a graduate of La Salle College High School and La Salle University, graduating with a degree in mathematics.

Leonard lives with the township with his wife and three daughters.
Bartorilla said Leonard spent 15 years with the Philadelphia Police Department. He said the township’s newest officer worked his way up to being a patrol supervisor in several districts before leaving.
The new officer comes from a law enforcement family. His grandfather was a cop in Philadelphia, his uncle serves on the city police force currently, another family member was a warden in the Philadelphia prison system, and his brother is a police officer in Warrington Township.

According to the 2023 township budget, the police department is authorized to have 59 sworn personnel, with 41 of them being patrol officers.
