BMW Crashes Into State Police Vehicle, Two Injuries Reported

A Pennsylvania State Police vehicle was damaged and a trooper suffered minor injuries in a crash on I-295 in Bristol Township Monday morning.

As of late Monday morning, troopers were still investigating the crash that occurred around 4:56 a.m. on eastbound I-295. The crash involved a marked state police SUV being struck by a BMW sedan.

According to state police, troopers from the Trevose Station were on the scene of a disabled vehicle on I-295 Eastbound when the crash occurred.

While the trooper was outside of the patrol SUV, a BMW sedan rear-ended the marked vehicle, causing the patrol vehicle to hit the disabled vehicle. The trooper had to jump over the concrete median to avoid being struck, state police said.

The driver of the BMW sustained injuries and was transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township.

Troopers in a statement reminded drivers of the mandates of Title 75 Section 3327, Duty of Driver in Emergency Response Areas and in Relation to Disabled Vehicles. The section requires drivers approaching an emergency response area on Pennsylvania roadways to move over to a lane farther away. Those drivers who are unable to safely merge into a lane farther away from the emergency response area are required to slow to no more than 20 mph below the posted speed limit.

No charges were filed in relation to the crash as of 11:30 a.m., according to a court docket.
