Bristol Borough’s lagoon along the Delaware Canal will be stocked with fish starting this year.

As part of the borough’s ongoing efforts to increase recreation in the town, the borough will be contracting with a hatchery to bring in 200 larger fish and thousands of minnows for food.
Bristol Borough Recreation Board member Aaron Antonelli said the fish will be stocked in the lagoon off Jefferson Street this year and it is expected the fish will be at home and naturally increase their population next year.
The lake will be stocked with 200 larger fish, including blue gill, large mouth bass, and crappie. An additional 2,000 minnows will be added, Antonelli said.

The recreation board talked with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to get approval for the stocking of the lagoon that sits along the canal, which is now a state park that runs from Bristol Borough to Easton.
“You can’t just go into a body of water like that and cram as many fish as you want. It’s a bioload,” Antonelli said. “The goal is maintain the ecological system. We want to make sure we’re doing things right.”

Antonelli said the lagoon is catch and release and the plan is to increase fishing opportunities in the borough for kids.
