Bristol Borough is considering using an app to help visitors and residents pay for parking.

Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III said the police department and parking officers recently went over the Passport Parking app and are considering using it.
The app would allow those parking in paid spots to make the transaction through the app if they don’t have coins for the meter.
“We’re still working out some details and then I’ll present it to council as a whole,” he said. “Then we can decide whether we can move forward with it.”

DiGuiseppe said the meters could still be paid with coins if the borough moves forward with the app.
The mayor said the app can also be used to issue tickets for expired meters and parking on sweeping days.

DiGuiseppe advised that parking has been an issue in Bristol Borough for decades. He said the borough does its best to improve parking, but the borough is old and the amount of cars in the town has only increased.
“This is the unfortunate reality. That doesn’t take away from the fact we’re going to try to improve the parking situation,” he said.
Bristol Borough Councilperson Greg Pezza said he supports an app to help with parking, noting not everyone carries quarters with them.

The Passport Parking app is already used by several municipalities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
The mayor also encouraged residents to sign up for Nixle alerts from the borough, citing an alert was sent to advise residents during a recent fire. Click here to sign up.
