U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, who represents Pennsylvania, was in a Washington D.C. hospital as of Thursday morning.

Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Calvello, issued a statement late Wednesday night reporting the elected official ended up being admitted to George Washington University Hospital after feeling lightheaded.
Fetterman previously had a stroke and needed emergency surgery last summer while he was campaign and serving as Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor.
“Initial tests did not show evidence of a new stroke, but doctors are running more tests and John is remaining overnight for observation. He is in good spirits and talking with his staff and family,” Calvello said.

According to Calvello, the Democratic senator had been feeling lightheaded during a senate Democratic retreat and he decided to seek medical attention.
Staff took Fetterman to the hospital.

After Fetterman’s 2020 stroke, questions were raised as to why it took so long for his campaign and his state office to alert the public of his hospitalization.
After his life-threatening stroke Fetterman, needed surgery in mid-May 2022. It was revealed Fetterman had previously-not-reported medical problems and he ignored doctor’s orders.
The stroke, surgery, and recovery left Fetterman off the campaign trail until early August, but he returned to the campaign trail and won the race over Republican Mehmet Oz.

Fetterman has acknowledged he is working to improve his “auditory processing and speech” as he recovers, but he has stated he is well enough to serve in the U.S. Senate.
The state’s other senator, Bob Casey, a Democrat, is currently being treated for prostate cancer.
