The Bucks County Commissioners – two Democrats and one Republican – voted at their Wednesday morning meeting to pay Michael Baker International Inc., of Montgomery County, up to $141,984 to provide design and engineering services for the project. About $70,000 of the work will be covered by the Coastal Zone Management Program through the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.
The trail, which is broken into four sections, will be just under a mile and will run along Levittown Parkway, Mill Creek Parkway and Lakeside Drive in Bristol Township, Falls Township, and Tullytown Borough, according to Rich Brahler, the director of transportation planning for the Bucks County Planning Commission.

The .9-mile trail will tie together sections of existing trail that don’t presently connect.
“We are completing some connections and filling in some gaps to provide a whole pedestrian system,” Brahler said.

The new trail sections will help connect the Levittown Town Center, Levittown Lake, Delaware Canal State Park, and Falls Township Community Park. In addition, the trail will link up with several neighborhoods in the three municipalities.
Brahler said a 10-foot-wide multi-use asphalt trail will be constructed.
The project will include pedestrian access improvements at Pinewood Drive and Levittown Parkway. There will be engineered crosswalks at Levittown Parkway and Sexton Lane and Mill Creek Parkway and Willow Drive, Brahler explained.

The county and planning commission have undertaken several major trail projects, including the first part of the Newtown Rail Trail in Lower Bucks County and other projects in the central and upper parts of the county. The county is looking at several other trail projects for the future.
