A kitchen fire at a local apartment complex sent one person to the hospital Saturday evening.

Firefighters were called to the Commons at Fallsington on Makefield Road in Falls Township’s Morrisville section Saturday just past 6:20 p.m. for an apartment fire.
Falls Township Fire Company Deputy Chief Jim Jones said the kitchen blaze extended to the area around the stove, but it was mostly contained to the kitchen.
He said one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

Crews arrived to find the kitchen well-involved in fire, Jones said.
Members of the fire company, police department, and fire marshal’s office assisted an elderly man who was escaping. He was using a walker.

Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said crews contained the blaze to the kitchen, but there was smoke damage throughout the apartment.
The fire was ruled accidental and began on the stove, according to Dippolito.
The apartment was left uninhabitable due to the blaze.

The Falls Township Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Edgely, Fairless Hills, Levittown No. 1, Levittown No. 2, Morrisville, Penndel, and Yardley fire companies. The Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad and Capital Health Emergency Medical Services were also at the scene.
