Natalie (Nee Lopacinski) Sofield, 87, of Levittown, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 1 at The Birches in Newtown.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Feasterville, Natalie was an original resident of Levittown, where she lived with her beloved husband George H. Sofield. They were married for 59 years before his death in 2014.
She was the proud mother of George H. Sofield III (Patricia Hiller), of Langhorne; Victor Sofield (Jane), of Levittown; Christopher Sofield (Ingrid), of Southampton; and Trudy Volinsky (Jeffrey), of Langhorne.
Natalie was known as Mom-Mom to her grandchildren and will be greatly missed. She will be remembered for her loving embraces by grandchildren Stephanie (Jim), Victor Ben (Naomi), Holly (Alec), Rae (Kevin), Shawn, Thomas (Jenna), Michael (Nicole), and Tanya (Dan). She had 10 great-grandchildren.
Sadly, just before Christmas, her sister Joanne Grotkowski, 88, of Langhorne, passed away.
Extended Philadelphia family members cousins Buzzy Alfred Hnatko and Steve Hnatko (Phyllis) will miss ‘Notch’, Natalie’s nickname in high school.
Natalie loved her nieces Debbie (John), Linda, Pam, Susan, and the late Bernice.
The lifelong Bucks Countian was a 1952 graduate of Lower Moreland High School and was known for her athleticism, including a love for basketball.
Natalie had a life full of civic and family endeavors. From her earliest years in Levittown, she was involved in civics in Falls Township and wasn’t afraid to make her thoughts known.
The Sofields’ home on Valentine Lane was a common hangout for kids from around Levittown who were looking to cool off in the pool.
Natalie loved cocktail parties, Bloody Marys, her granddaughters’ cheerleading, and travel. She was an avid yardsaler, loved playing mahjong, and enjoyed admiring flowers.
Natalie and George hosted many family reunions up and down the East Coast, and she lived for summer beachfront vacations at Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island. At the shore, she was either playing a game, sharing a laugh, or sitting on the beach on a sunny day with the sand between her colorfully painted toes.
She loved life and enjoyed spending time with her close family and friends. Her friends became extended family.
Throughout her life, Natalie was known for her warm personality and her genuine compassion for others, whether family or friends.
Natalie’s passing on New Year’s Day meant she made it to one more party just the night before.
Family and friends are invited to attend Natalie’s viewing on Thursday, January 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Newtown Cemetery.
