A Levittown native who is the former Pennsylvania lieutenant governor has been appointed the president of a private Catholic college.

Jim Cawley had been serving as interim president of Rosemont College in Delaware County since June before the Rosemont College Board of Trustees appointed him last week to be the college’s 15th president.
Cawley signed a contract with the college, which serves just over 1,000 students, that runs through June 30, 2028.
“I’m honored to accept the role of president of Rosemont College,” said Cawley.

The new college president stated his time as interim president allowed him to meet the students and staff.
“Rosemont has a rich history and a bright future,” Cawley said. “We recently celebrated our centennial year and now the important work begins as we chart a path forward for the next 100 years. I am looking forward to working with the entire Rosemont community on our new strategic planning process as we lay the groundwork for our future.”

Cawley recently served as vice president of institutional advancement at Temple University in Philadelphia. He led an effort that raised more than $360 million and led 140 employees.
Prior to working at Temple University, Cawley, who served as the state’s second-highest ranking executive during Republican Gov. Tom Corbett’s administration, led the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey from 2015 to 2017.
Before being elected as lieutenant governor, Cawley was a Bucks County Commissioner from 2006 to 2011. Prior to that post, Cawley unsuccessfully ran for state representative and served as chief of staff for State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson.

“Given his distinguished career and track record of public service and executive leadership experience, it is no surprise that during the last four months as Interim President, Jim has demonstrated exemplary leadership as the College concluded its Centennial celebrations looking back on the College’s past 100 years and begins the new strategic planning process to ensure the Rosemont’s future success,” said Maria Feeley, chair of Rosemont College Board of Trustees and chief legal officer and general counsel of Washington and Lee University.
Cawley was previously a finalist for Rosemont College’s presidential search in 2019 and 2020, but he withdrew at that time for family reasons, the college said in a statement.
