In an announcement Monday, PennDOT and police officials said the enforcement wave will focus on the Move Over Law, school bus safety, speeding, and tailgating. Drivers who display other aggressive driving actions or unsafe behaviorsย will also be targeted.

The enforcement wave started Monday and runs through Sunday, November 13.

Authorities said the goal is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities on roadways.

In Lower Bucks County, Bensalem Township, Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Falls Township, Lower Southampton, Middletown Township, Newtown Township, Northampton Township, Penndel Borough, Upper Southampton, and Yardley Borough officers will be taking part along with troopers.

“Law enforcement will use traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement, and multi-jurisdictional patrol strategies to identify and cite aggressive drivers,” state officials said.

PennDOT offered several tips to motorists who encounter an aggressive driver:

  • Get out of their way and don’t challenge them.
  • Stay relaxed, avoid eye contact, and ignore rude gestures.
  • Don’t block the passing lane if you are driving slower than most of the traffic.

In Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, there were 1,483 aggressive driving crashes that resulted in 27 fatalities in 2021.

The enforcement effort is funded through PennDOTโ€™s investment of federal money from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
