The ramp from Rockhill Drive at the Neshaminy Interchange to southbound Route 1 will close starting Tuesday, September 13 for approximately two years for bridge construction. The closure is expected to begin sometime after 9 a.m. on September 13.

Amid the ramp shutdown, drivers will be directed to use northbound Route 1, exit at Penndel/Business Route 1, and turn left at a temporary signalized intersection at the bottom of the ramp onto Old Lincoln Highway to access the ramp to southbound Route 1.

In a statement, PennDOT said the ramp will be closed for construction of the new Route 1 bridge over Rockhill Drive and other improvements at the interchange.

The new bridge is part of the Route 1 overhaul project in Bensalem and Middletown townships.

With the new closure, PennDOT reminded drivers southbound Old Lincoln Highway remains closed through late-September from the ramp to southbound Route 1 to Bristol Road in Middletown Township for reconstruction.

Due to the closure, drivers have been directed to use southbound Route 1 to the Neshaminy Interchange, then turn right onto Rockhill Drive to access Old Lincoln Highway.

The work is part of the ongoing reconstruction and widening of almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges, including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit. The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. The second phase will widen the highway.

The $111.5 million second phase of the project is being carried out by Chester County-based contractor JD Eckman Inc. The work is expected to be done in mid-2026.

A proposed third phase would begin at the Penndel Interchange and continue just past the Pine Street (Route 413) overpass in Middletown Township.
