The Middletown Township Human Relations Commission will host a movie screening Monday evening.

At 7 p.m. at Lance Cpl. Harry J. Simmons Jr. Memorial Park on Brownsville Road, the commission will show the film “Fighting Indians” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“‘Fighting Indians’ is the story of a small New England community forced to reckon with its identity, its sordid history, and future relationship with its indigenous neighbors. It is a story of a small town divided against the backdrop of a nation divided where the ‘mascot debate’ exposes centuries old abuses while asking if reconciliation is possible,” the commission said in a statement.

“This story was turned into a powerful and moving film which captures the landscape that communities navigate when retiring native ‘themed’ school mascots. This film is a part of the Human Relations Commission efforts to continue the conversation of Native American History,” the statement added.
The event is free and open to all.

The commission advises those who attend to bring a lawn chair to watch the movie from.
