On Monday evening, police said the suspect has taken cartons of cigarettes from local retailers on four separate occasions over the last month. The most recent retail theft happened Monday.

Police have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Johsua Burden, a white male with blue eyes. He stands 6-foot-1, and is being sought by police.

Burden has ten active warrants for his arrest as of Monday evening, police said.

On each occasion, he enters the store, asks the cashier for two boxes of Newport cigarettes and then pretends to pay while the employee prepares and bags the goods. He then snatches the bag and drives off to a car parked somewhere else, police said.

“We are also encouraging local merchants to be aware,” police said.

A dark green Jeep Liberty and, in the case of Monday’s incident, a green Honda CRV with a temporary New Jersey registration and a shattered, plastic-covered driver-side window have both been used by Burden, according to police.

Anyone who sees Burden has been asked to call 9-1-1. Other information on Burden can be directed at Officer Ryan Murphy via email at r.murphy@fallstwppd.com or anonymously at tiplines@fallstwppd.com.
