The Bucks County Commissioners – two Democrats and one Republican – voted unanimously last week to spend $101,864.85 with Safeware Inc. of North Dakota to purchase protective equipment for law enforcement tasked with operating in chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, explosive environments during a disaster or mass gatherings.
The gear will be used by the county’s 82-person Major Incident Response Team (MIRT).
Audrey Kenny, the county’s director of emergency services, said the purchase is being made because existing equipment needs to be refreshed.

The MIRT team, which is made up of officers from around the county and sheriff’s deputies, provides support around the region, Kenny said.
