A woman is facing numerous charges after she was allegedly intoxicated while driving and the fought police officers, according to court papers.
Just before midnight last Thursday, Middletown Township police were dispatched to a possible DUI driver in the area of northbound Route 1 at Highland Avenue and learned the Acura RDX was heading to the exit ramp at Maple Avenue (Route 213).

An officer caught up to the Acura on Maple Avenue headed toward Langhorne Borough. The Acura was spotted crossing the double-solid yellow line, turning around, and then almost hitting other vehicles. The Acura then turned back around and headed again toward Langhorne Borough, nearly striking a curb, police said.
Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop on Pine Street (Route 413) in the area of East Richardson Avenue. The Acura stopped partly on the grass and partly on the roadway.
The officer made contract with the driver – identified as Angela Calvanese, 35, of Philadelphia – and additional officers arrived, police said.

A bottle of Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila that was nearly empty was located in the Acura, police said.
Officers reported noticing the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Calvanese, police said.

Calvanese talked with slurred speech, glassy and bloodshot eyes, and was argumentative, police said.
Outside of the Acura, a police supervisor handed Calvanese her shoes, as part of an attempt for her to do field sobriety tests, police said.
At that time, the woman became more combative and uncooperative, police said.

An officer wrote in court papers that Calvanese continued to argue and “was not willing to reason with us.”
As an officer began assisting Calvanese in standing up, she struck him in the face, police said.

Another officer took Calvanese to the ground as she was kicking and yelling. She didn’t stop fighting and struck several officers, police said.
Once taken into custody and struggled to stay out of a patrol vehicle, she continued kicking and screaming, police said.

Calvanese was transported to St. Mary Medical Center and a blood sample was taken for testing, police said.
Calvanese was preliminarily arraigned last Friday morning by on-call District Judge Gary Gambardella on three counts of aggravated assault, DUI, simple assault, and single counts of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. She was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
