According to PennDOT, northbound Route 1 will be reduced to a single lane between Old Lincoln Highway and the Neshaminy Exit in Bensalem Township from Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

During the move to a single lane, crews will be removing a construction barrier and doing other work for a planned traffic shift of northbound vehicles onto the reconstructed and widened northbound side of Route 1.

Also, southbound Old Lincoln Highway will be closed for about two months starting Monday, July 18 from the ramp to southbound Route 1 to Bristol Road in Middletown Township for reconstruction, according to PennDOT.

Drivers are asked to allow extra time on their commute when traveling through the work areas.

The work is dependent on the weather cooperating.

The work is part of the ongoing reconstruction and widening of almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges, including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit. The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. The second phase will widen the highway.

The $111.5 million second phase of the project is being carried out byย Chester County-based contractor JD Eckman Inc. The work is expected to be done in mid-2026.

The $95 million Phase 1 of the project in Bensalem Township is getting closer to being completed.
