The United Way of Bucks County’s Bucks Knocks Out Hunger (BKO) initiative needs help from the community to meet its goal.

As of late in the week, the hunger-fighting initiative was $20,000 short of reaching its goal of providing meals to Bucks County residents and families.
The nonprofit, which is based in Falls Township, has been raising funds for BKO Hunger since spring and held a large in-person meal-packing event at the Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem Township last month.
The United Way of Bucks County said the rising cost of groceries has caused more local families to become food insecure.

Money raised by BKO Hunger provides nutritious foods like fresh produce, eggs, and dairy to local pantries, senior centers, and the Fresh Connect events.
โThereโs never been a more urgent need to source and donate the healthiest locally-grown fruits, vegetables, and organic proteins,โ said Cathy Snyder, founder and executive director of Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, a local organization that uses BKO Hunger funds to connect local farmers with residents in need.

โSo many of our neighbors continue to struggle amidst rising food costs, transportation costs, loss of government safety nets, and other challenges to feed their families well. This is what you are supporting when you give to BKO Hunger,โ Snyder added.
According to a 2021 survey by the Hunger Nutrition Coalition Of Bucks County, nearly a third of households in Bucks County worry about running out of food at least one a month.
While this year’s BKO Hunger fundraising has a gap as the deadline nears, a generous couple recently donated $30,000 to narrow the fundraising gap to only $20,000.

โWe were really concerned about closing such a big gap, but now we feel like weโre back in the game,โ said Tim Philpot, director of health at United Way of Bucks County. โThis is the time to show your support and help fight hunger if you havenโt already. Together, we can make this happen before theย Fourth of July.โ
Donations to BKO Hunger can be made atย www.uwbucks.org/bkohungerย or by mailing a check to the United Way of Bucks County, 413 Hood Boulevard, Fairless Hills, PA 19030, with “BKO Hunger” in the memo line.
