Falls Twp. Awards Contract For Road Paving Project

The Falls Township Board of Supervisors voted Monday evening to award the bid for the summer 2022 road paving project.

General Asphalt Paving Company Inc. was awarded the $4.8 million bid for the township’s paving program.

General Asphalt’s approved bid came in about $1 million less than the other bidder.

Township Engineer Joseph Jones said General Asphalt enjoys working for the township has been aggressive in getting Falls Township’s business in recent years.

General Asphalt will be taking on the full-depth reconstruction of Pinewood Drive and repaving work.

The project will also include the milling and paving in the Nottingham neighborhood and a portion of the former U.S. Steel site that has not yet been redone.

The roads that will be milled and repaved are: Taylor Drive, Robinhood Drive, Sherwood Drive, Martha Circle, Franklin Avenue, Progress Drive, Enterprise Avenue, Steel Road South, and Dean Sievers Place.

The milling and paving work is expected to begin around July 20.

The supervisors also voted to contract Jones’ engineering firm to provide inspection and construction administration services for the 2022 road program. The contract is worth $243,000.

Additionally, the supervisors voted to advertise a project to repair the Rice Drive culvert project.

The township is seeking to replace a small bridge on Rice Drive.

Storms keep washing out the the bridge and causing damage around it.

Jones said he expects the bids to open in July, and the goal is to get work underway by mid-September.

The project is expected to take about 60 days to complete.
