In a statement Monday, Bucks County Coroner Meredith Buck said the inmate – identified as Christopher Robert, 25, of New Hope – completed suicide by choking on food, the coroner said.

“The Bucks County Coroner’s Office has notified his next of kin and offers his family and friends sincerest condolences,” a statement said.

According to court records, Robert was arrested last Sunday by Solebury Township police in connection with an alleged May 25 burglary and aggravated assault in the municipality.

Robert came before a district judge Monday afternoon and choked to death at the Doylestown Township facility last Tuesday.

County officials didn’t release much further on the death, but they did state last week that correctional facility medical staff pronounced the man dead.

The most recent death at the facility happened in March. Inmate Edwin Dunfee, 46, of Philadelphia, died at the facility by suicide.

Over the past seven years, Bucks County has reported five inmate suicides, one homicide, and several medical-related deaths at the correctional facility, according to Pennsylvania Department of Correction’s extraordinary occurrence statistics and this news organization’s tally. The total doesn’t include Robert’s death.

If you or someone you know is considering suicide, the National Crisis Line can be reached day or night at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Bucks County also operates an around-the-clock crisis line at 1-800-499-7455.
