Mehmet Oz and Dave McCormick gained a few votes in Bucks County during the recent recount, but the outcome remained the same.

Oz, a TV show host and surgeon, and McCormick, a former hedge fund leader, had their GOP primary race for the U.S. Senate recounted because they were only separated statewide by about 1,000 votes. Because Oz’s advantage was less than half a percentage point, the Republican primary recount was automatic, per state law.

Following the recount, it was confirmed Oz won the race statewide and in Bucks County, with McCormick conceding last Friday before the review of votes was completed.

Below are the Bucks County vote tallies following the recount:

  • Oz initial vote (without undateds) 27,454
  • Oz initial vote (with undateds) 27,462
  • Oz recount vote (without undateds) 27,477
  • Oz recount vote (with undateds) 27,485
  • McCormick initial vote (without undateds) 22,663
  • McCormick initial vote (with undateds) 22,674
  • McCormick recount vote (without undateds) 22,680
  • McCormick recount vote (with undateds) 22,691

James O’Malley, a county spokesperson, said the addition of some votes is due to several factors, including ballots the original count didn’t catch because they weren’t filled in dark enough for the scanner to read.

The two Republican candidates had battled in court over the recount and a dispute over mail ballots that arrived on time but lacked a date signed by voters.

McCormick’s campaign had hoped mail-in ballots and the recount would push their candidate ahead of Oz, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

The two men’s campaigns spent tens of millions on the race, both flooding TV and the internet with ads attacking one another.

Oz, of Montgomery County, will face Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, a Democrat from outside of Pittsburgh, in the November general election.

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, a Republican, is retiring at the end of his term, leaving Pennsylvania with its first open U.S. Senate seat in a decade.

The cost to Bucks County taxpayers for the recount is not known as of this week, but state officials said the total cost across 67 counties could be approximately $1 million.
