Levittown Residents Wonder When Their Sidewalks & Yards Will Be Fixed

The residents on Meadow Lane aren’t pleased after their sidewalks were ripped up and they’ve had to wait weeks for replacement work to begin.

Earlier in the spring, the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority undertook a needed water line replacement project on the street, which led to the sidewalks and part of driveways and the street being ripped.

Neighbors were told a contractor would be out to replace the sidewalks on the street in Bristol Township’s Levittown section, but as of this week, the residents were still waiting.

Laura Simons is one of those residents and she’s upset every day she looks at her well-manicured front yard and sees dirt, weeds, and yellow caution tape where the sidewalk once was.

Simons and the several neighbors LevittownNow.com spoke with said they understand the need for the work and appreciate that it was done, but they wish the sidewalk was replaced and their properties were restored a bit quicker.

Simons said the lack of sidewalks is dangerous, has left standing water and a perfect breeding spot for bugs, and has caused mud and stone to wash into the street during rain storms.

When Simons, a decade-long resident of the neighborhood, called the contractor the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority hired for the work, she claims they told her the project wasn’t on their upcoming schedule and they were busy.

“This looks like trash,” she said of unfinished work.

Dr. Vijay Rajput, the managing director for the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority, told LevittownNow.com the contractor will be back out this week to work on the sidewalks. He said the update was relayed to residents via the authority’s website.

“If the restoration is done prior to the ground having enough time to settle there is a potential for the concrete to crack. The streets are restored in order of replacement to help with time for settling. When restoration is complete, all areas disturbed will have brand new sidewalks as well as the water main that was replaced,” Rajput said.

The authority has pledged to replace the sidewalks and “restore only the areas disturbed by the work,” Rajput noted.

Erik Klinefelder, who is a newer resident on Meadow Lane, said he hopes that means fixing his brand new concrete driveway that was cracked by the work.

“I took pictures before and after,” he said, adding he wanted proof of what his driveway looked like.

Simons said it has been nearly six weeks since the water line work was completed and the neighborhood has sat looking like a construction site.

“The authority does not consider a street to be complete unless and until the boil water notice is approved by PADEP to be lifted. The boil water alert was lifted on May 2nd. With Memorial Day holiday weekend, it’s been closer to four weeks,” Rajput said.

Paul Kearney, a resident of seven years, said last week that he didn’t back from the authority on a replacement schedule.

“This delay on getting this refurbished isn’t good,” he said.

“I don’t want nothing special,” Kearney stated. “I just want it put back to normal.”

An exterminator at Kearney’s home said he suspected the ant problem that started this spring at the Meadow Lane residence was partly caused by the Earth disturbance from the project.

Joan Moyer, an elderly woman who lives across from the homes where the work was completed, stated she would like to stop having to clear the washed away dirt and rocks from outside of her home.

“I’d like for it to be fixed up soon,” she said.
