Bristol Township police searched Neil A. Armstrong Middle School and worked with school administration and security before removing the lockdown of the building just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Following a detailed police investigation it was determined that the student allegedly carrying a weapon was actually carrying a remote control used for gaming. All students are safe and all lockdowns have been removed,” the Bristol Township School District said in a statement.

On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at approximately 7:51 AM, police dispatch received a third-party report of a  juvenile with a gun boarding a Bristol Township School Bus heading to Armstrong Middle School.  

Investigating officers were able to sort it out and discovered the student in question had brought a black  video game controller to school with him.  

There was no threat to the students at Armstrong Middle School.

The student was speaking with police at the Wistar Road middle school, according to sources close to the incident.

A lockdown at the nearby Bucks County Technical High School and Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School on Veterans Highway were lifted prior to the one at Armstrong, authorities said.

Police rushed to the school just before 8 a.m. for a report of a student who possibly had a weapon. There was a tense atmosphere as officers secured the building.

Students were locked down in classrooms and texted there parents what was happening. Parents told LevittownNow.com students relayed to them they could see and hear officers in the hallways while they were locked in classrooms.

Families of students were asked to stay away from the school while police were sorting out the situation, but some arrived and were held at the driveway, a parent said.

The Bristol Township School District’s three elementary schools and Harry S. Truman High School remained in normal operations throughout the incident.

Thursday’s incident comes after a school shooting in Texas earlier this week that left 19 kids and two adults dead.

A note from the school to parents said police were on the scene following a 9-1-1 call of a student who potentially had a weapon. Parents were advised to stay away from the building as police were on the scene.

Details on the incident were still coming in as of 8:50 a.m., but multiple parents said police officers from Bristol Township were all over the Wistar Road school and students were locked down in classrooms.

Around 8:35 a.m., two parents in phone calls to LevittownNow.com said their students reported seeing officers checking the building as classroom doors were closed for safety.

Bristol Township police Lt. Ralph Johnson said there was a third-party report of a potential threat that officers were working to sort out.

Additional emergency personnel were standing by next to the school, according to parents.

The security posture was raised at Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School on Veterans Highway, multiple parents said.

The elementary schools and Harry S. Truman High School remained in normal operations.

The incident follows a shooting earlier this week in Texas where a young man entered an elementary school and killed 19 kids and two adults.
