Three Bristol Township police officers were recognized recently by officials.

At the recent Bristol Township Council meeting, police Lt. Ralph Johnson handed out commendations that were approved recently by Chief Robert Coulton.
A commendation for merit was awarded to Detective Alex Asmann for his work on a child pornography case that ended up with the defendants pleading guilty earlier this year, meaning none of the victims were forced to testify.
In the case, Leonard F. Hewitt Sr., 51, and Krystyn Anne Smock, 40, both of Bristol Township, were sent to state prison and will have to register as sex offenders for sexually assaulting kids and creating child pornography.

Johnson said Asmann often receives eight to 10 referrals per week and has to prioritize them and investigate them.
Officer John Yeiter and Sgt. Mark Titus were recognized for their work in a December 2021 homicide along Veterans Highway. They both received commendations for valor.

Yieter responded and was able to take the armed suspect into custody as other responders rushed inside to aid the victims, Johnson said.
Titus applied a tourniquet to stop bleeding from wounds one of the people in the house suffered. That person survived, Johnson said.
The police response to the incident was captured on officer body cameras and showed the frantic minutes after as officers figured out what happened and worked with medics to treat the victims.

In that case, David Joseph Jenner, 38, of Bristol Township, has been charged with homicide, aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person in the stabbing death of Charlie Thomas Jr., 43, last December 18.
Also at the meeting, Bristol Township Council recognized the work of all the municipality’s officers and public works staff.
