One of the three candidates running for the First Congressional District seat has commented on the leaked draft of a U.S. Supreme Court majority opinion that showed the court plans to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Democratic candidate for Congress Ashley Ehasz issued a statement on the draft decision. Republicans Alex Entin and incumbent Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick did not respond to requests for comment.
Roe v. Wade is the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that led to legalized abortion in 1973.
The leak of the draft led to celebration from anti-abortion supporters and protest from those who support a woman’s choice to decide whether they will get an abortion.

Below is Ehasz’s statement:
“If Roe is overturned, we will see one of our most fundamental freedoms taken away. As a woman and a veteran who has fought for our freedom around the world, I am personally outraged by this gross overstep by anti-choice politicians. Once we pull this thread, it’s not just a threat to women who bear children, this decision is teeing it up so that the rights that we have built a path for in the last few decades will be undone. They will come for gay marriage, they will come for birth control, they will come for civil rights—they will come for abortion, and then they will come for everything we hold dear.
As your next representative, I will always defend the right for women, and everyone, to make their own healthcare decisions, and I will stand up to anyone who tries to take them away.”
In addition to her statement, Ehasz, a military veteran from Bensalem Township, spoke at a rally in support of Roe v. Wade in Doylestown Borough Tuesday evening.

Previously, Fitzpatrick said he is personally pro-life and feels that taxpayers should not foot the bill for abortions.
In September 2021, the three-term GOP congressman voted against Women’s Health Protection Act, which broadly looked to codify abortion protections set by Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey into federal law.
