For nine years, Stephen Pirritano has been a fixture on the Neshaminy School Board and he was a regular face at meetings as a resident before that.

Pirritano, a Lower Southampton Township resident who represents his township and a portion of Middletown Township, recently announced he will be resigning from the school board effective 11:59 p.m. on April 26.

Pirritano was appointed to the school board in 2013 to fill the seat left open when Kim Koutsouradis resigned. He has been a key voice in the district’s facilities roadmap, has played an active role in contract talks with district employee unions, and served as president of the school board.

The school board was first informed of Pirritano’s impending resignation in March. He said he wished to give them as much of a head start as possible.

The school board will have 30 days from the time of Pirritano’s resignation to fill the seat. The new member will fill out Pirritano’s term, which expires in December 2023.

Pirritano told LevittownNow.com his decision to resign has been coming for at least a year, but he delayed it to continue to serve the district during the worst of the pandemic.

Growing family commitments led to Pirritano’s recent decision, he said.

The nine-year school board member first became involved as a citizen in 2009 during the contract impasse with the teachers’ union. Before joining the board, Pirritano served as a citizen advisory member to several committees and was vocal at public comment sessions.

John Allen, the school board president, said he will miss Pirritano on the board.
