A cold wind and flurries whipped through the air as crews fought a house fire in Falls Township’s Levittown section Monday.

The fire was reported at 3:23 p.m. in the 70 block of Buttonwood Lane.
Crews arrived to find the family outside with their pets with smoke coming from the second-floor of the Levitt-built residence, Levittown Fire Company No. 1 Chief Rich VanSchaick said.
VanSchaick said the fire was largely in the second floor, but it did spread to a first-floor addition before it was extinguished.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire, which stubbornly got into the knee walls of the home, the chief said.
Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said the fire appeared to start in the area of a crawlspace and knee wall, but the investigation continued as of evening.

In addition to Levittown Fire Company No. 2, crews from the Falls Township, Fairless Hills, and Levittown No. 2 fire companies responded. The Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad was also at the scene.
