A New Jersey health system will continue its expansion into Bucks County with the creation of a “multi-specialty surgical hospital.”

Capital Health purchased the former bariatric surgery center at 280 Middletown Boulevard, which sits off Woodbourne Road next to the Oxford Valley Mall in Middletown Township, in 2019. The health system announced Friday it plans to renovate and add onto the building.
Capital Health plans to open the facility for patients in early 2024, according to a press release from Anchor Health Properties, which is working with Capital Health on the site.
The new facility will be considered a hospital, but it will not have an emergency room.

The vacant medical facility will see its existing 53,220 square feet renovated and a roughly 19,000 square foot expansion.
“The facility, located at 280 Middletown Boulevard in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, will serve as Capital Health’s first major hospital presence in the state complementing its existing outpatient and ambulatory facilities in the surrounding area and New Jersey. As part of the health system’s ongoing expansion into Bucks County, the facility is strategically positioned adjacent to the Oxford Valley Mall and will offer synergistic inpatient and outpatient clinical programs that provide the neighboring community with convenient options for quality care,” Anchor Health Properties said in their statement.

“The modernized facility will allow the health system to build on its outstanding reputation in the area while increasing accessibility and convenience to comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care in the community. It has been a pleasure collaborating with the full team on the initial phase of this project and we are looking forward to bringing Capital Health’s vision to fruition,” Vice President of Development with Anchor Health Properties Matthew Pirolli said.
Renderings for the new facility show a modern exterior and interior design.
Currently, the building has four operating rooms and inpatient beds for patient care.

Jo Ann Hopkins, director of project and property management with Capital Health, said the new facility will be a “quality facility that will meet the needs of the community,”
The facility is licensed with the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a hospital.

In 2020, county and federal authorities look at using the empty facility as a COVID-19 patient overflow field hospital.
In recent years, Capital Health, which serves Central New Jersey, has moved into Lower Bucks County, opening facilities in Middletown Township, Newtown Township, and Upper Makefield Township.

Capital Health is competing with Prime Health, which owns Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol Township; Trinity Health, which operates St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township; and Jefferson Health, which operates Jefferson Bucks Hospital in Falls Township.
