After the last few days of above average temperatures, we’ll see a return to reality as colder air and snow showers filter in on Super Bowl Sunday.  First, though, another day on Saturday near the 60-degree mark will help warm the ground, making this round of snow unlikely to stick very long.

The southerly flow for the most of the week has helped keep temperatures in the 50s and 60s over the past few days. This is all ahead of a cold front that will move through Saturday night into Sunday. Behind that cold front, be prepare for temperature whiplash, with highs back below normal.

Cloud coverage will increase Saturday afternoon and evening as the cold front moves closer, and snow showers will start around midnight Sunday. Winds will also pick up ahead of the frontal passage, with gusts between 20 to 30 mph. When you wake up later that morning, snow could still be falling until about noon. In total, most locals will see about an inch of total snow, but the further south and east you go, the possibility of more, 2-3 inches at the max.

Since we’ve seen these above normal temperatures, the greatest accumulation will most likely be on grassy surfaces but slick spots on roads, bridges and sidewalks are also possible. Once the snow ends on Sunday, skies will remain mostly cloudy, but some peaks of sun towards dusk could be seen. Temperatures will only top out in the mid-30s.

For the start of the workweek, Valentines Day looks even colder, with high struggling to reach the 30s and Wind Chill values in the single digits as you return to work or school. Tuesday, temperatures moderate a bit back to near normal with another big pop in temps towards the middle and end of the week. The next chance of precipitation returns in a liquid form towards the end of the week, as well.
