The state will be sending Falls Township $756,881 to improve safety at seven intersections.
Gov. Tom Wolf’s office announced the grant award Thursday. The money comes from $12.9 million in Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding.

PennDOT and township officials did not name the seven intersections that will be improved, but they noted the work will include installation of pedestrian signals, ADA curb ramps, and preemption devices on existing traffic signals.
The money for the grant comes through fines from red light cameras at 32 intersections in Philadelphia. State law allows a portion of violation fines to be considered for traffic projects.
Outside of Falls Township, 21 other municipalities throughout the state received $12 million through the program.

There were more than 132 applications submitted to the program. An eight-member committee based their picks on a criteria such as safety benefits and effectiveness, cost, and local, and regional impact.
Since the program began in 2010, $112.7 million has gone toward transportation projects in Pennsylvania.
