Bucks County will not be raising taxes in 2022.

The Bucks County Commissioners – two Democrats and one Republican – voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the 2022 spending plan. The budget is only a slight increase over last year’s spending.

The $474 million budget will keep the millage rate at 25.45.

The largest portion of county spending is directed to public safety, health, housing and human services departments and agencies. The county is putting 75 percent of spending toward those portions of the budget.

The budget showed expenditures exceeding revenue by $18.4 million for 2022. The general fund, which will start 2022 with $44 million in the bank, will cover that projected budget gap.

In addition, the county is receiving $24.7 in a one-time payment from the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority related to Lake Galena.

In November, Chief Financial Officer David Boscola said the county expects to add more money to reserves in 2022 and keep its AAA bond rating.

The county’s finances have been boosted by federal COVID-19 aid and relief in 2020 and 2021.

Plans for the $122 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds the county is receiving are still being worked out.
