Taxpayers in Bristol Borough won’t see their municipal tax rates increase in 2022.

Bristol Borough Council voted Monday to approve a $12.5 million spending plan that keeps taxes steady.

The millage rate will remain at 51.39. In 2020 with the sale of the skating rink, the borough was able to lower taxes by 6.5 mills, a 11.2 percent drop.

The budget keeps the trash collection fee at $395 per unit, which is where it has remained since 2016. The budget also allows the borough to purchase a new animal control vehicle and new code enforcement vehicle. Both the existing vehicles are aging and are in bad condition.

Borough Manager Jim Dillon said at last month’s budget hearing that the town will continue to look at obtaining grants.

Over the years, the borough has worked to decrease the town’s debt load from about half the real estate tax revenues to about 2 percent, Dillon said.

Dillon said the borough is looking at ways to use the roughly $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds that will be received.

The borough’s sewer system is need of upgrades due to its age, and those projects are being prepared to go out to bid.
