COVID-19 Cases Rise In Bucks County, But Deaths Slow

COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Bucks County after a few weeks of dropping numbers.

Over the past two weeks, Bucks County has seen a 28 percent increase in new infections. Last week, there were 1,148 new COVID-19 cases reported, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health data.

During the same period of time last year, the number of new COVID-19 cases was 1,676. At that time, there were strict mitigation measures in place and vaccines were not yet approved.

The COVID-19 test positivity rate in the county increased last week from 6.6 percent to 6.8 percent. A test positivity rate higher than 5 percent means health experts consider the spread uncontrolled.

On Tuesday, there were 74 hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 in Bucks County. Among those 74 patients, 9 were in intensive care and three were on ventilators, according state data.

Data from state health officials reported seven COVID-19 deaths in Bucks County last week. The number was a drop from the 13 deaths reported the week prior.

The number of fully vaccinated people in Bucks County continued to rise with the addition of most school-aged kids becoming eligible for vaccine doses.

A total of 57,059 Bucks Countians were partially vaccinated and 350,611 were fully vaccinated at the start of this week, according to state data.

The number of third doses and booster shots administered continued to rise. Since they were approved in mid-August, a total of 62,046 additional doses were administered in Bucks County.

According to state data from September, nearly all people who died of COVID-19 or were hospitalized with the novel virus in recent months were not fully vaccinated.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 76,698 COVID-19 cases in Bucks County and 1,460 deaths.
