A new craft brewery is proposed for Bristol Township.

The Bristol Township Zoning Hearing Board approved a variance on Monday evening to allow the former Upper Deck Bar and Grill in the 2600 block of Durham Road to be used as a craft brewery.

Attorney Stephen Harris did not announce the name of the brewery, but he said the business will fix up the former bar site that closed in 2017.

The applicant, Parliament Durham LLC, has addresses in Philadelphia and Wrightstown Township, according to public records.

“The main purpose is to produce craft beer that will sold at their location in Philadelphia,” he said, adding there will be a maximum of 10 seats, as required by state regulations, for a tasting room and some takeout.

The new brewery will not have a kitchen.

Harris said the work at the site will “improve the strip center’s appearance.”

The existing businesses are expected to stay in the small shopping center.

Harris said there is an agreement of sale for Parliament Durham LLC to purchase the part of the property that includes the shopping center.

The Upper Deck was opened for several years before closing and replaced a sports bar and night club named Sky Box.

The current owner of the site, PER-SONS Associates LP, will split the property and continue to operate a fabrication shop behind the shopping center, Harris said.

Bristol Township is already home to two craft breweries. One is Second Sin Brewing Company, which took the spot held by Bristol Township’s first brewery, Broken Goblet Brewing Company, before they moved to a larger location in Bensalem Township. The second is Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, which operates a large tasting room and production facility in Croydon.
