Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the single-story duplex. Firefighters began attacking the flames with hose lines, and the fire was placed under control a short time later, Third District Fire Company Chief Howard McGoldrick said.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the flames left one half of the duplex uninhabitable.

The blaze started on the outside of the home, the fire marshal said.
