Penndel Borough’s new mayor will be a Republican.
Thomas C. Sodano Jr., a Republican, beat past opponent Mark Moffa, a Democratic council member, in the borough. Sodano scored 287 votes and Moffa earned 198, according to preliminary results.

Sodano will replace outgoing longtime Mayor Bob Winkler, who was beat by Moffa in the Democratic primary.
Winkler ran a write-in campaign for mayor. There were 125 write-in votes recorded in Penndel Borough, but it is unclear if all were for Winkler.
Winkler has been a resident of Penndel Borough since 1958 and he served in many posts, including with the Penndel Fire Company and as borough zoning officer. He was first elected mayor in 2010. In 2019, he was named Mayor of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs.

Mayors in boroughs break tie votes of council, may take part in council discussions, oversees the police department, performs marriages, and is able to declare an emergency.
Moffa also ran to keep his seat on council, but he lost that race on Tuesday.

Incumbent Democrats Beverly Wolfe, Laura Germain, John Stratz won their races for council. Republican Louis Joseph Adams also won a seat on council.
Council members oversee the borough government and create ordinances, resolutions and contracts. The council levies taxes, sets the budget, and can take out debt.
Republican Donna Caracappa ran unopposed and won the race for tax collector.

John Slaughter, a Democrat, was unopposed and won his election for auditor.
Constable Daniel Cahill, a Republican, kept his seat as he ran unopposed.
