Local and state police are cracking down on aggressive drivers.

PennDOT officials said officers from the Bristol Township, Falls Township, Middletown Township, and Penndel Borough police departments, along with Pennsylvania State Police troopers, will be kicking off the enforcement effort that will run through November 14.

From PennDOT:

The enforcement wave will focus on the Move Over Law, school bus safety, speeding, and tailgating. Motorists exhibiting other aggressive actions or unsafe behaviorsย may also be cited.

Law enforcement will use traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement, and multi-jurisdictional patrol strategies to identify and cite aggressive drivers.

PennDOT advises drivers who encounter an aggressive driver to “get out of their way and don’t challenge them; stay relaxed, avoid eye contact, and ignore rude gestures; and don’t block the passing lane if you are driving slower than most of the traffic.”

Last year, there were 5,615 aggressive driving crashes, resulting in 91 fatalities and 401 suspected serious injuries, in Pennsylvania.

In addition to the Levittown-area police agencies, close to 80 others from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will be taking part.

The enforcement effort is funded by PennDOT through federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
