A smoking earbud charging case led to a bomb scare in Bristol Township Monday.
A Bristol Township Public Works Department employee was cutting the grass at Sara Johnson Park in the Bloomsdale-Fleetwing section when their lawn mower struck an object, causing it to smoke, police said.

The object that was smoking appeared to resemble a possible explosive device and led to the Philadelphia Police Department’s bomb unit and an explosive-detecting K-9 team to be dispatched to the public park, police said.
Sgt. C.J. Winik said he and Detective Tim Fuhrmann examined the device and determined it was a Letscom earbud charging case that contained a battery that smoked when the lawn mower’s blade struck the nickel polymer battery.
The bomb squad and K-9 unit were recalled after it was determined the device was not a danger, Winik said.
