PennDOT’s project to revamp Route 1 will cause periodic nighttime closures Thursday into Friday.

The periodic northbound and/or southbound single lane closures and stoppages of up to 15 minutes are expected to be in place Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday between Old Lincoln Highway in Bensalem Township and the Penndel Interchange in Middletown Township.

Periodic lane restrictions may also take place during the same time on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way in Bensalem Township.

PennDOT officials urged people allow extra time when driving through the area.

The work is part of the ongoing reconstruction and widening of almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges, including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit. The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. Theย second phase will widen the highway.

A proposed third phase would begin at theย Penndel Interchange and continue just past the Pine Street (Route 413) overpass in Middletown Township.
