The man was in surgery at St. Mary Medical Center as of Wednesday evening. He is expected to recover, police Chief Joseph Bartorilla told LevittownNow.com.

The man suspected of shooting the complex resident was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police in the area of Adams and Whitaker avenues in Philadelphia’s Crescentville neighborhood after fleeing Lower Bucks County, according to authorities.

The suspect first was involved in a domestic dispute at the Racquet Club Apartments on Veterans Highway (Route 413) when his female partner ran to neighboring units for help. At that point, which was around 2:30 p.m., one neighbor assisted and he was then shot in the face by the suspect, police said.

“He was a good Samaritan. The guy shot him,” the chief said.

Middletown Township Detective Lt. Steve Forman said the suspect took off from the apartments in a vehicle and led Levittown-area police on a chase that wound down Veterans Highway, around surrounding areas, and onto I-95 south. The chase then went onto Roosevelt Boulevard before it ended with the suspect and police exchanging gunfire.
