The former Bally Total Fitness in Middletown Township is no more.

The roughly 20,000-square-foot building near the Oxford Valley Mall came down this week when large pieces of construction equipment tore into its walls.

According to records, the building opened as a gym in the early 1980s after the land was purchased from the company that owned the mall.

No land development plans for the site have been announced.

County property records showed the 3.25-acre site and building were sold by Fitness International LLC, which owns the LA Fitness chain, to Northampton Township-based Rusden Properties LLC in March 2018 for $750,000.

The Bally Total Fitness has been closed since 2011 when the chain sold many of its clubs to LA Fitness, which operates a location nearby in Falls Township.

Over the years, the building has started to deteriorate and been the subject of trespassing complaints.
