A woman was on life support as of Friday afternoon after a domestic assault, according to authorities.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said Friday afternoon that the 36-year-old woman, Jamie Beighley, was choked to the “point of unconsciousness” at the New Falls Hotel in the 200 block of Lincoln Highway, which sits about 800 feet from the police station, by Evan Marquis Smith, 36, of Morrisville.

Late Thursday, officers were called to the motel for a person suffering cardiac arrest. They arrived to find Smith performing CPR on the woman.
“Smith became combative and uncooperative with first responders prior to fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Officers pursued Smith for a short time before terminating the pursuit in the interest of public safety,” officials said in a statement.
Beighley was found unresponsive on the floor of the motel. Officers found blood around her head, face, and hands, authorities said.

Life-saving measures brought a pulse back to Beighley and she was transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township.
As of Friday afternoon, she was in the intensive care unit on life support, the district attorney’s office said.

Smith was arrested in the area of Hunter Drive in the Pennwood Crossing mobile home park shortly after he fled, officials said.
“Smith told police that the couple engaged in a heated verbal argument prior to engaging in sexual activity, at which time Smith choked Beighley to the point of unconsciousness. Medical reports indicate that Beighley’s injuries are consistent with strangulation,” authorities said.
Smith was arraigned Friday at 2 p.m. by District Judge Jan Vislosky on charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and fleeing and eluding. He was held on $500,000 bail.
