The ongoing Route 1 project will lead to lane reductions this week overnight.

The project will reduce each direction on the highway to a single-lane from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

The lane reductions will be for placement of construction barriers along the northbound and southbound shoulders and median between the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange andย Pine Street (Routeย 413) interchanges in Bensalem and Middletown townships.

The work is for the ongoing reconstruction and widening of almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges, including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit. The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. The second phase will widen the highway.

The $110.8 million second phase of the project is being carried out by Chester County-based contractor JD Eckman Inc.

A proposed third phase would begin at the Penndel/Business Route 1 Interchange and continue just past the Pine Street (Route 413) overpass in Middletown Township.
