The workweek starts with a heat wave and then will end with lower temperatures.
With heat and humidity this week, officials at the Pennsylvania Department of Health warned residents to be safe when outside.

“The combination of heat and humidity can be deadly for people and pets who are not able to keep themselves cool. Exposure to high temperatures for long periods of time can cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke. We ask all Pennsylvanians to be a good neighbor and check on people who may have limited mobility or may not have a way to escape the heat,” Pennsylvania Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam said.
Symptoms of heat stroke include a high body temperature (above 103 degrees); red, hot and dry skin, but no sweating; a rapid, strong pulse; throbbing headache; dizziness; nausea; confusion; and unconsciousness.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, fainting, and nausea or vomiting. Help the person cool off and seek medical attention if symptoms are severe, symptoms last more than one hour, or the victim has heart problems or high blood pressure. Extremely hot weather can make you sick, and extreme heat is one of the leading causes of weather-related deaths in the U.S. each year.

PECO offered customers tips to stay cool, save energy, and keep their bills low during warm weather:
- Turn it off:ย Turn off all unnecessary lighting and devices. Avoid working in a stove when it shows signs of malfunction and begin to release more heat than the ordinary level. In such cases, you call the expert stove repair in Pittsburgh, who will fix the problem instantly.
- Manage your thermostat:ย Keep thermostats at a constant, comfortable level when at home. Raise the thermostat setting for days of extreme heat to save even more. Install a programmable thermostat to automatically adjust your home’s temperature settings when you’re away or sleeping.
- Keep shades, blinds and curtains closed:ย About 40 percent of unwanted heat comes through windows. Simply closing blinds and curtains, which act as a layer of insulation, can reduce heat in your home.
- Use ceiling fans to circulate air:ย For those without air conditioning, use ceiling fans or portable fans with the windows partially open to circulate fresh air into your home. For those with air conditioning, fans can be used to evenly distribute cool air.
- Use appliances wisely:ย Run appliances that produce heat (like clothes dryers, ovens and dishwashers) at night when it is cooler. Make use of our expert appliance repair process as damaged appliances tend to use more energy, especially heaters.
