What should Bucks County look like in 2040?

That’s the question county officials are asking as they embark on creating their every-decade update for the Bucks County Planning Commission’s comprehensive plan.

The current plan was last updated in 2011.

The updated report is expected to be put up for adoption by the Bucks County Commissioners by the end of 2022.

Michael Roedig, the director of planning services for the Bucks County Planning Commission, said the county is a bit behind in getting the plan update together, but the delay will allow the use of new census data.

The initiative for the update is called “Bucks 2040.”

“This update to the 2011 comprehensive plan will form a collective vision for Bucks County and set a direction for future Bucks County policies and programs. Bucks 2040 will focus on the quality-of-life issues that are most important to Bucks County residents and how planning can help our communities achieve better land use outcomes,” the program’s website states.

Roedig explained the planning commission will seek input from residents and local officials.

“We’re going to allow those residents and public officials to tell us what’s important and what needs to be fixed in the county and where we need to go,” he said.

The planning commission has sent surveys to some residents. There is a meeting with municipal officials planned for next week and again in fall. A public open house in slated for fall and again for next spring.

Officials said residents who don’t receive a survey and wish to offer feedback by emailing Bucks2040@buckscounty.org.
