As the Route 1 overhaul project continues, PennDOT officials warned motorists this week that there will be periodic northbound and southbound lane closures.
The lane restrictions will take place periodically Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Old Lincoln Highway in Middletown Township and the Neshaminy Interchange in Bensalem Township through the summer.

The closures are needed as crews work on construction to revamp and overhaul Route 1 in Middletown Township and Bensalem Township. The project includes the reconstruction and widening of almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges, including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit. The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. Theย second phase will widen the highway.
The $110.8 million second phase of the project is being carried out by Chester County-based contractor JD Eckman Inc.
A proposed third phase would begin at the Penndel/Business Route 1 Interchange and continue just past the Pine Street (Route 413) overpass in Middletown Township. The full details of that phase have not been released. PennDOT has not included a proposed construction start date or cost estimate.
