Former Bristol Township police official Terry Hughes will likely be the next district judge for part of the township and all of Tullytown Borough.
In the primary election, where judicial candidates can cross-file, Terry Hughes bested Rachael Wagner on both the Democratic and Republican ballot. He will run in the November election unopposed.

Hughes earned 777 votes to Wagner’s 279 votes on the Republican ticket, and Hughes earned 1,198 votes and 654 votes on the Democratic ballot, according to unofficial vote tallies.
The race between the retired seasoned police officer and 26-year-old marketing worker led to rows over mailers and signs. One touted experience in the community and the other promised to be a fresh face. Democrats in Tullytown Borough endorsed Hughes, but the Bristol Township Democratic party did not endorse either candidate.
The seat for Magisterial District Court 07-1-04 is vacant after District Judge Robert Wagner, who is Rachael Wagner’s father, resigned and retired after 33 years in office. The seat is currently being held by a senior district judge who is filling in.

District courts are the first level of the state’s Unified Judicial System. District judges oversee preliminary arraignments and preliminary hearings; summary offenses; traffic offenses; municipal code violations; landlord and tenant cases; and civil claims where damages are not more than $12,000. District courts are the most common interaction the public has with the judicial system.
District judges in Pennsylvania do not have to be attorneys.
