Bucks County will resume use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
Starting Tuesday, the county health department’s mass vaccination site in a closed grocery store off York Road in Warwick Township will resume providing the single-dose vaccine to residents, said county spokesperson Larry King.

There are more than 4,000 people scheduled to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week at the county site. Some doses will also be used to inoculate vulnerable populations through mobile clinics.
The county’s four other mass vaccination clinics continue to use the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, King said.
Over the weekend, the Pennsylvania Department of Health told medical providers that they could begin using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said any blood clotting issues were extremely rare and the vaccine was safe. Use of the vaccine was paused as authorities made sure it was safe.

“After a thorough review, federal experts have determined that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is safe for all individuals,” Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam said. “We continue to urge individuals to get vaccinated as soon as possible with any of the three vaccines available to them. Getting vaccinated is essential as we work to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and also of serious and fatal complications due to the virus.”
State health officials are asking those who receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath within three weeks of their vaccination should contact their health care provider. They directed those who get the vaccine to visit the federal information sheet.

In addition to the county, some other vaccine providers in Bucks County have been given doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for use.
As of Monday morning, 93,795 people were partially vaccinated and 156,916 were fully vaccinated in Bucks County.
