Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub’s Democratic opponent is calling for a “full investigation” surrounding a former top official caught delivering DoorDash on taxpayers’ dime.

Then-First Assistant District Attorney Gregg Shore drove for DoorDash, a food delivery service, during office hours from October through February, according to news broken by KYW Newsradio and later confirmed by LevittownNow.com.

Shore paid back taxpayers through his banked vacation time, the district attorney’s office said.

Candidate Antonetta Stancu, a 16-year veteran of the district attorney’s office who left for a private law firm last year, called for an investigation into prosecutor Gregg Shore working DoorDash from October through February, the fact he was allowed to remain working for the district attorney’s office, and whether politics was involved.

“While Bucks County faced drug overdoses, violent crimes, and even homicides, Weintraub’s top deputy was defrauding taxpayers. Instead of trying cases, he should be tried for theft,” Stancu said.

She called for her former co-worker to lose his job.

“I call upon District Attorney Matt Weintraub to fire Gregg Shore. Slapping him on the wrist by simply penalizing him with some lost vacation time and a demotion does not honor the  trust that the taxpayers have placed in the office of the District Attorney. It’s outrageous to note that the position Shore was demoted to is one to which many ADAs strive for. The taxpayers deserve more respect,” she said.

Shore was demoted last Wednesday to a deputy district attorney. Weintraub, a Republican, explained last Thursday that the longtime public servant, who was slated to earn more than $129,000 this year, will remain employed but lose his former authority as number two in command at the office.

Weintraub said last week that Shore “demonstrated very poor judgment” in taking on the DoorDash deliveries while on county time, but also noted Shore “should be judged for more than just his mistakes.”

Shore apologized for his action.

“I worked a second job delivering food during the pandemic, mostly on nights and weekends, but I sometimes made the incredibly poor decision to do so during the workday. By doing so, I betrayed my colleagues, my boss, and the citizens of Bucks County,” he said in a statement.

“Mr. Shore violated the trust that I, the other members of the district attorney’s office, and the people of Bucks County place in each of us. I have a duty to hold those who violate that trust accountable. No exceptions. But I also believe in redemption. I have demonstrated that many times in my capacity as district attorney. Mr. Shore has been punished by loss of salary and demotion, and has repaid his monetary debt,” Weintraub told LevittownNow.com when asked for comment on Stancu’s statements. “He deserves a second chance.”

“While some may seize this situation as an opportunity for political grandstanding, I choose not to use misfortune in such a manner,” the district attorney said.

News of Shore’s actions have made headlines outside of Bucks County. The story has made the New York Times, Washington Post, and numerous online, TV, and radio outlets.
