An alleged shooter is being charged and so is his intended target.

Sysco Schruby, 21, of Bristol Township, was arrested Friday and is expected to be arraigned at night on six counts of attempted homicide and charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and two firearms violations, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

According to the grand jury presentment that led to the charges, Schruby encountered William “Bam-Bam” Flemming III, 28, of Bristol Township, at the Rodeway Inn at the corner of Green Lane and Route 13 on the evening of November 22, 2019. At the take-out food area attached to the hotel, Schruby exchanged words with Flemming and the 21 year old remarked “do you think it’s a f**king game?” and “you snitch ass not allowed around here.”

Schruby was seen in security footage leaving the take-out business and getting in the passenger seat of a Honda Accord that drove past Flemming’s green GMC Envoy. As the Honda Schruby was in went past, Schruby was seen holding a gun out the window and then firing two to three shots at Flemming and five others, including the targeted man’s 4-year-old daughter, the grand jury investigation found.

Flemming, who is being charged with carrying a firearm without a license and reckless endangerment, then ran after the Honda Schruby was in and fired shots back, the grand jury found.

One witness told an officer the shooting might have been retaliation for Flemming being a witness in a past nearly-decade-old shooting case.

There were 9-1-1 calls the evening of the shooting, but police didn’t have many leads. A Bristol Township officer and an FBI special agent received tips from informants that led to more information on the incident. Surveillance video was obtained from the hotel in the days after the shooting.

Officer Denny Leighton testified before the grand jury that a woman who was at the shooting scene later showed him Facebook messages that allegedly had Schruby apologizing for the shooting because the young girl was at the scene. Schruby offered the woman money to fix any damage and cash to take the 4-year-old girl to Chuck E. Cheese.

One man at the hotel saw the words exchanged between Schruby and Flemming. He testified he worried there would be a shooting and tried to stop any violence.

“I seen it in his eyes … I seen that boy was going to shoot somebody,” the man said of Schruby.

No one was injured in the shooting, authorities said.

Flemming was arraigned Monday morning by District Judge Kevin Wager and sent to county lockup on 10 percent of $150,000 bail.
