A Bristol Township woman was charged after allegedly attacking her elderly mother, according to police.

Bristol Township police said they were called on Wednesday, February 10 for a reported fire alarm at the Levittown Trace Apartments on Ford Road. At the same time, a call for an assault and medical alert alarm at the J building was received.

An officer wrote in court papers that the mother of Melissa Velge, 40, said her daughter had assaulted her while intoxicated.

Velge’s mother said her daughter came at her holding a pair of open scissors, saying they were in trouble and she was going to die. Velge dragged her mother to the ground and cut a medical alert necklace from her. The 40 year old then threw the necklace in the trash, according to court papers.

Velge allegedly stole her mother’s cell phone and ran out the door.

Police said Velge’s mother had bruising on her arm.

Velge was charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault, and harassment. She was arraigned by District Judge Frank Peranteau earlier this month and jailed on 10 percent of $25,000.
